Build Your Web Site In Time for Convention!
If you're going to this year's NSAA Convention on the Gold Coast, arrive a couple of days early and build your Web site as well. I'm doing a special version of my two-day Boot Camp just for speakers. So fly in two days early, and you'll have your Web site complete before the conference begins!
You can look around the rest of this site to find out all the details, but let me give you the most important bits here on this page ...
Who is this for?
This workshop is ideal for you if:
- You're a new speaker: If you're still exploring your brand, markets, audiences, delivery modes and maybe even your speaking topic, it's too early to invest much time and money in a Web site, because it might change in the blink of an eye! In this Boot Camp, you'll be able to build your site yourself (saving money) and you'll be in full control of it yourself. So it can grow as your business grows and takes shape.
- You have a Web site you can't update yourself: This is (unfortunately) a very common scenario, and many people who come to my Boot Camp do it because they're stuck with a static Web site which is expensive or even impossible to update. This Boot Camp will give you a new Web site that you can update yourself. You also do have an advantage over many people because you might be able to salvage some of the material from the old site for the new site.
- You have a Web site, but want another for a specific product (e.g. a book): Sometimes you'll think it important enough to create a new Web site specifically for selling one product. For speakers, the most common example is a book. Use this Boot Camp to build the second Web site, so you have full control of it when marketing your product.
- You know you will need more Web sites in the future: You will build one new Web site during the Boot Camp, but of course the skills you learn will allow you to build as many more as you wish in the future.
- Your Web developer didn't understand the speaking business: Unfortunately, this is also a common scenario. What works on the Internet for speakers is very different than what works for most other businesses, and if your Web developer didn't understand the speaking business, you might have a pretty, but also pretty useless, Web site. I do have almost 15 years experience working with 100+ speakers from around the world, so you also get my strategic input during this Boot Camp. It might seem like a radical step to throw away your current Web site and start again, but sometimes it's the best option!
Why should you work with me?
You can read all about me on the About Gihan page. But in brief, you get a combination of these three things:
- I'm a speaker (and NSAA member since 1997), so I understand the speaking business - and I know how to present and teach technical material effectively.
- I'm a Web developer, working almost exclusively with speakers since 1997, so I know my technical stuff.
- I'm a strategic business consultant for speakers, so I give you my strategic input into your Web site, not just my technical input.
What will you learn?
OK, here goes [takes a deep breath ...]: Web pages (creating, deleting and changing them), linking, promoting products and services, drop-down menus, client list, e-book downloads, graphics, adding photos and other pictures, 3-d e-book covers, inserting YouTube videos, adding PowerPoint slide shows, selling products (and taking credit card orders), event registrations (free and paid), privacy policy, social media links (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), blogging, e-mail newsletter, document downloads, Search box, testimonials ... and my guidance in how to use these things well on your Web site.
Note: I won't just be teaching you how to do all of this; you will actually be doing it all yourself.
In addition, there are a few more things I'll teach you, which you can do yourself later: Podcasting, screen capture video, polls, surveys, photo galleries, and a password-protected area.
All in all, you should be asking, "What won't you learn?" instead!
When and where?
The Boot Camp is on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th April: The two days immediately before the NSAA Convention. It's not an official Convention event, but I picked these dates so you could combine the two events in one trip, saving you money and time.
It's at the beautiful Vibe Hotel in Surfers Paradise, within walking distance of the NSAA Convention venue. According to Google, it's an 8-minute walk - you can see this on the map below (A is the Vibe, B is the Marriott):
What's included?
Bring your own laptop and USB memory stick. I'll provide power, broadband Internet access, a workbook and all the other usual stuff that goes along with a workshop like this (pens, paper, etc.).
Your registration also includes catering on both days:

- Lunch Day 1: Sandwiches, salads, seasonal fruit platter
